Guiding Principles of HALTO a.s.b.l.
HALTO is a network for caregivers of children with disabilities and for all those close to them.
We create spaces for connection, listening and mutual support – on a voluntary basis, guided by compassion and shared responsibility.
HALTO does not replace professional care or therapy.
Our support is human, not medical or clinical.
1. Trust and confidentiality
Everything shared within the context of HALTO is treated as confidential.
This confidentiality applies to conversations, meetings and support situations.
Confidentiality ends where there is a clear risk to a person’s life, physical integrity or well-being.
In such cases, consultation with the HALTO coordinator or board may take place to ensure protection and safety.
2. Respect and appreciation
Every person is unique.
We respect differences in background, language, culture, beliefs, age, gender and way of life.
Respect means listening without judgement and accepting others as they are – with openness, compassion and sensitivity.
3. Listening and restraint
We accompany others with care and empathy.
To listen is to create space – not to give advice.
Support means offering orientation, not instruction.
We support without imposing – in the spirit of:
“As much as necessary, as little as possible.”
4. Voluntary engagement and responsibility
Everything within HALTO is based on voluntary participation.
No one is obliged to do anything.
Those who engage do so with personal responsibility and respect for others.
Reliability, honesty and openness form the foundation of our shared work.
Everyone commits to maintaining confidentiality and data protection in accordance with applicable regulations (GDPR) and the statutes of HALTO.
5. Data protection
Personal data are processed solely within the context of HALTO activities and only to the extent necessary for coordination, support or organisation.
Data are handled in accordance with the principles of data minimisation and confidentiality.
Further details can be found in the Privacy Policy and the statutes of HALTO.
6. Empowering autonomy
HALTO aims to strengthen people, not make them dependent.
We encourage self-determination and support individuals in finding their own paths and solutions.
Support means trusting in each person’s inner strength to discover their own answers.
7. Dignity, boundaries and safety
We respect the dignity of every person – physically, emotionally and socially.
Personal boundaries are recognised, respected and upheld.
No one acts without consent.
Boundaries create safety – and from safety, trust can grow.
Where there are signs of abuse, violence or risk, the following principle applies:
protection and safety come first.
8. Disclaimer
Participation in HALTO activities is at one’s own responsibility.
HALTO, its members and coordinators accept no liability for any damage or consequences arising from personal decisions or actions within the context of voluntary encounters.
HALTO’s offers are supportive in nature and do not replace professional advice, care or therapy.
